Guest Posting And Writing Is Fun!

When I was establishing my consultants practice in 1990 I set about creating a book. The book was aimed at helping people to progress in their careers and shows how to assess yourself, prepare an interview-winning resume’, market yourself and win the job at interviews, plus other real-life tips.

Anyway, I enjoyed the writing process, thought the book was good and sold a few copies. The effort of writing the book was not rewarded by the number of copies sold. I did not really have a low-cost route to market.

In building my website and writing a weekly newsletter I have realized that I do enjoy writing and drawing on my experiences. So recently I have been thinking of writing another book for sale on the internet.

Guess what? I got my original book out, re-read it and I am editing it as my next internet publication. The point of this article is to tell you what I realized when I read my ‘masterpiece’.

I had been living in the corporate world and the book was written in corporate style. Formal, the grammar was convoluted, too many long words. It was not easy to read and I did not like the style. The content is excellent but I did not like how the book was written.

Bearing in mind when I originally wrote it 15 years ago I read and re-read it in an effort to do a good job. That I now do not like the writing style came as a shock. Which shows that our skills and perceptions are changing all of the time and no matter how good we think we are at any one thing we can always do better.

If you’ve got anything that you created a while back it may be worth having another look at it. Your style may have changed and you may be able to improve it.

My son writes for his living and he has experienced the same with some of his early writing.  By writing for the web my style has changed, hopefully to a more readable form because I still like writing.

Tip: learn from the mistakes of others, you can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.

Copywriting

The difference between writing copy for users and writing copy for search engines

You want to be a writer?  Not sure which path to go! If you are an effective communicator then Bam! You can be a great writer. Do you have the ability to bring ideas to reality?  Perhaps you want to be a part of a marketing group and reach a target audience promoting services and products.
It’s all easy to say you love being creative you love writing, but do you know the difference between copy writing for users and copy writing for search engines.  Are you more suited for SEO writing or copywriting jobs? There is a difference.

SEO writing

SEO writing is writing with specific keywords and using them in a way to increase your visibility in the search engines like google, Bing and Yahoo.

In writing for search engines, you need to know the importance of tailoring the wording to include the particular keywords while ensuring to keep the word count within a certain range.

Google and the other search engines are able to recognize that the information is relevant to the users.
When you are an SEO writer it’s important to consult with a marketer who has researched the search terms around that particular product.

This will allow for a high placement in the rankings and allows people to see the type of topics you are happy to cover.

If things like digital marketer and search marketer appear in the popular terms then you can decide to write an article on the differences between the two. This will allow both search relations to strengthen the search engine to supply the relevant information to the users creating a high ranking.

There are many places where SEO writing appears such as blogs, social media posts, web page content, copywriting jobs and videos.

Copy writing for the users

Copywriting can be content that can help to sell your product and services. Other copywriting for the likes of blog writing are more used for giving information to users. Copywriting is used like a sales tactic that grasps the emotions and main points.

The theme music for an ad that stays in your head all day is an example of copywriting designed to grab you.

Good copywriting means get to know your audience and write specific to their wants, needs and age group. Copy writing is more direct with engaging headings and simple descriptions.
SEO writing is designed to grasp the search engines where as copywriting for users is writing pieces that are relevant and grab the attention of the consumers.
You will see copywriting in emails, PPC advertisements, internet advertisements, headlines and taglines, web page content, billboards brochures, sales letters and television commercials.

Whichever type of writing from the two you decide to go for it’s still vital to have the skills and knowledge for both. Believe it or not sometimes the two types of writing can be used together. They work well independently but can be swirled in with each other as well.
